Soldiers' Christmas Event

Join us Friday December 9th 2011, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Coach's Pizza World 112 S. Washington Street, Mexico Mo for the second annual event. It will be a family oriented night themed in a Christmas and Patriotic atmosphere filled with candlelight prayer for our troops, entertainment, free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies Hear our soldiers and or veterans speak about their experiences. Free cards will be available at the event for those who would like give our troops and veterans a personal thanks. We ask that you do not seal envelopes for security reasons.
Cards for troops will be mailed in care packages to our troops for Christmas and Christmas cards for veterans will be distributed at the VA Home in Mexico, MO

Needed items for troops are: baby wipes, razors, shaving cream, soap, deodorant, toothpaste toothbrushes, hand warmers, snacks, gum, snack cakes, candy, jerky ( beef only), Drop boxes are available at Hickmans IGA, Walgreens, Westlakes, Dollar General S. Clark St. only, Orschelns, Caseys Hwy 54 East Only, and Wal-mart in Mexico, Mo.

Free cards and a drop box are available at Graphitti 124 W. Promenade 224 W. Promenade, Mexico, MO For those who would like leave a donation for shipping or to have their soldier or veteran's picture and shared information for posted at the event may do so by dropping it by Graphitti and may be picked up after December 11th weekdays.

For those who would like more information, how they can help, or for those that would like their soldier to be on a first come first serve list to receive a package for Christmas may do so by emailing christmas4troops@gmail.com

This event is launched by the citizens of Mexico, MO and the surrounding areas, who are the ones who make it happen.

You are welcome to attend the Soldier's Christmas Event, that will be held in honor of our troops during the Holiday Season, sponsored by a group of citizens from Mexico Mo and the surrounding area. Join us Tuesday, December 7th, at 7:00 pm at Coach's Pizza World 112 S. Washington St. Mexico, Mo in candle light prayer for our troops, hear Veterans speak and Soldiers who have either served in Iraq, or Afghanistan. There will be Christmas music, and a Card and letter Shower that will be sent to our men and women serving our country. Some Christmas Cards will be available to you at the event. Cookies, coffee, hot chocolate will be served.

WAYS YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
*For those who would like to send a card or letter earlier to our troops for the holidays feel free to drop them by Graphitti 124 W. Promenade, Mexico Mo before December 8th. Christmas Cards and or letters will be picked up on the 8th and mailed randomly to our troops either in Afghanistan, or Iraq. You may include your address in your card or letter for your soldier. Some Christmas cards will be available at Graphitti for your convenience.

* For those who know of a soldier serving in Iraq or Afghanistan or know of a Veteran that wish to speak or to have their military picture posted at the event, please feel free to write their name and information that you would like to share. Please post information on the back of your photo. Be sure your photo is a duplicate in case it accidentally gets lost. Please drop your photo before Dec 1st at Graphitti 112 W. Promenade St. Mexico, Mo. You may pick your photo up at Graphitti during weekdays of Dec. 9th through Dec. 14th or after the Soldier's Christmas Event

*For those who wish to send our troops needed items they may do so at the Christmas donation drop boxes at the participating stores in Mexico Mo; Wal-mart, Walgreen, Hickmans, and both Dollar General locations. A list of items are posted on the boxes. Please note some of our troops in Afghanistan are walking over 300 miles per week and are going through the socks at an alarming rate. The most needed items are "black diabetic socks" long enough to be worn with combat boots. Other most needed items are hand sanitizer, and baby wipes 10-12 in a pack easy for toting. Keep in mind soldiers like phone cards.

*This event is being launched by "a group of citizens of Mexico, Mo and the surrounding area" and has nothing to do with the tea party and is only being posted here for informative purposes and is open to all who wish to send us their suggestions, or wish to volunteer. We would like to thank all of the local residents and those from surrounding communities that attended the Mexico Nonpartisan TAX DAY T.E.A. Party on April 17th. We’d like to thank Jerry Baur, A&B Prescription Shop for providing us the parking lot and KJAB Radio Station for announcing the event and the Mexico Ledger. We also would like to thank Pastor Adam Weber for opening prayer, vocalist Cynthia Fennewald who sang the National Anthem, Fair Tax Speaker Colin Malakar, and to all the Fair Tax volunteers that set up the Fair Tax booth. Thanks to organizers Summer Decker and Jeffrey Owen Jadav for setting up the Soldier’s Angels Booth for our troops. On July 4th rain did not stop the 122 (Taxed enough Already) T.E.A. Party gathering at the premises of Summer Snow on the corner of Love and N. Western Street. People from Mexico, Mo and surrounding communities as well as some out of state participants attended the rally. Many people stood in the rain to sign petitions concerning Government Fiscal Irresponsibility and Healthcare Reform. Tracy Leake, vice chairman of Tea Party Patriots of Silver City, New Mexico was the main speaker at the event. 17 year old Weston Hitchcock who was sent to Washington D.C. as a delegate by a local Electric Co-op received a big round of applause after speaking about his questions and visit to Senator Claire McCaskill’s office. Signs went up protesting excessive government spending, massive trade deficit, increasing national debts, etc. The group also showed concerns over the implications Cap and Trade legislation, which was recently passed by the House of Representatives.

This T.E.A. Party gathering was organized again by Jay and Pat Jadav, with the help of several volunteers. This local protest was part of a nationwide T.E.A. Party Patriots, who are a nationwide nonpartisan grassroots movement and the signed petitions are part of a nationwide effort to send a clear message, to our lawmakers in Washington. The gathering more than doubled in numbers from their last rally on April, 15th. They are looking forward to possibly putting together another fall rally sometime in October. We invite you to join together in this Nationwide grassroots movement that will enable the citizens to speak out and display our concerns to the politicians in Washington.

On July 4th between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, local residents from Mexico and neighboring communities will be joining in a bipartisan gathering in Mexico, MO for this event.

Venue: Summer Snow, located on the corner of N. Western and Love St. Parking is prohibited at the venue. We ask that you please park along side streets to avoid blocking entrances and exits that may interfere with local businesses. Any weather related cancellation or rescheduling will be posted as an update on our website. You may bring your own chair if you wish; Summer Snow will be open for business during this event so there will be plenty of cold treats available.

GOP Sen. Arlen Specter joins the Democratic Party

Veteran GOP Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania announced Tuesday he will switch political parties and run in the Democratic primary in 2010.

Republican voters had sent him to the Senate five times. But faced with the prospect of a strong challenge from conservative Pat Toomey in the GOP primary and the state trending Democratic, Specter issued a statement that he was going to jump ship.

"I deeply regret that I will be disappointing many friends and supporters," Specter said at a news conference on Tuesday.

"I can understand their disappointment," he continued. "I am also disappointed that so many in the party I have worked for for more than four decades do not want me to be their candidate. It is very painful on both sides."

Missouri planning to spend stimulus money as tax cut

Republicans in the Missouri House threw a monkey wrench into the budgetary process with a proposal to use Missouri's share of federal stimulus money to cut the state income tax by $1 billion.

But with three weeks remaining in the session, both Democrats and Republicans are skeptical that a tax cut can pass.

The plan arose after members of the GOP caucus revolted, arguing that the House had gone on a pork-infested spending spree reminiscent of Washington, D.C.

On Friday, House Speaker Ron Richard, R-Joplin, told Fox News Friday afternoon that though he had heard from Washington that it would not be legal to use stimulus money for a tax break, the opinion did not stop him from planning to move forward.

Blaine Luetkemeyer discusses job creation in Mexico, MO.

Mexico, MO._ In support of job creation and energy independence, U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-9) will visit the Rockies Express Pipeline natural gas compressor station on Friday, April 17, 9:15 a.m. to discuss the benefits of Missouri portion of the vast pipeline.

"This pipeline not only has contributed to our nation's move to greater energy independence but also has provided hundreds of jobs and increased tax revenues in the 9th District during its construction and operation". Luetkemeyer said.

DHS worried about "right-wing extremist groups"

The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement agencies that recent news is helping "right-wing extremist groups" recruit new members and could lead to violence, and warns about the possible recruitment and radicalization of returning veterans.

The report, issued last week, is part of an ongoing review of extremists on both ends of the political spectrum.

The latest assessment by DHS' Office of Intelligence and Analysis found no specific information that domestic right-wing terrorists are currently planning acts of violence, but right-wing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on fears about the recession and the election of the first African American president. The office called them "unique drivers for right-wing radicalization and recruitment."

"Right-wing extremists have capitalized on the election of the first African American president, and are focusing their efforts to recruit new members, mobilize existing supporters and broaden their scope and appeal through propaganda, but they have not yet turned to attack planning," the assessment reads.

As debt mounts, Pentagon prepares for Economic Warfare

The Pentagon sponsored a first-of-its-kind war game last month focused not on bullets and bombs — but on how hostile nations might seek to cripple the U.S. economy, a scenario made all the more real by the global financial crisis.

The two-day event near Ft. Meade, Maryland, had all the earmarks of a regular war game. Participants sat along a V-shaped set of desks beneath an enormous wall of video monitors displaying economic data, according to the accounts of three participants.

“It felt a little bit like Dr. Strangelove,” one person who was at the previously undisclosed exercise told POLITICO.

State retirement system managers get bonuses while fund loses $1.8B last year.

JEFFERSON CITY Wall Street investment managers aren't the only ones who got big checks despite huge losses last year.

The 14-member staff of the Missouri State Employees Retirement System received almost $300,000 in bonuses even as the pension fund lost almost $1.8 billion, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Sunday.

Chief Investment Officer Rick Dahl got the biggest payment, drawing $114,000 early this year. The next largest bonus was $29,400 for the system's hedge funds manager.
Pension officials said the payments were based on Missouri's fund outperforming the market.

Kroll, the private investigative firm that came of age in the go-go ’80s as a hired sleuth for Wall Street traders locked in hostile takeover battles, is on the beat again, this time looking for fraudsters in the government’s bailouts.

The firm put out its regular “global fraud report” earlier this week, arguing that 10 percent of the billions of dollars’ worth of stimulus funds will likely be lost to fraud unless stricter oversight controls are put in place.

The Tea Party movement has grown from 1 city on February 22 and 40 on February 27 to over 300 cities on April 15. By July 4, this could be the largest grassroots movement in US history. By election day 2010, it could be a new political party controlling Congress.
Seem far fetched? The Republican Party was launched in 1854 in opposition to slavery. By 1860, it controlled the White House and Congress.
Don’t underestimate the power of millions of angry people committed to a cause that is both morally and politically vital to freedom. Ours is.
Turnout Is Key
The Tea Party movement will reach a tipping point when our numbers become so large that we can’t be ignored. I don’t know what that number is, but my gut tells me we’ll approach it on the 15th.
